Expert: Social engineering, Trojan most popular cybercrime in Russia
MOSCOW, Jun 17 (PRIME) -- Social engineering, Android Trojan viruses, virus-encoders, and attacks on Internet banking are Russia’s most widely spread cybercrimes, head of international anti-cybercrime company Group-IB Ilya Sachkov told PRIME on Wednesday.
Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said in a report that the number of cybercrimes in the country rocketed by more than 25 times over the last five years.
“Such a trend exists, -- it is confirmed by the Interior Ministry – as homicides and attempted homicides, robbery, assaults with the intent to rob fall by 3.8%, 9.5% and 19% respectively, IT crimes grew by 82.4% and impacted the total number of registered crime cases in the country significantly in the four months by 0.8%,” Sachkov said.
“I won’t be mistaken if I say that the majority is presented by all kinds of financial scams with the use of social engineering, and this increase does not even look like an ordinary seasonal rise, like ahead of the New Year. It is a rise by tens of times with much more victims.”
